Meeting Additional Needs

Small Talk, Fine Movements - EYFS

Reception have been getting to know the children and their needs. They have met with the senco to discuss provision and staffing for key children. Now that children are more settled they are starting to introduce small group work and interventions for children who need additional support including small talk and fine motor skills.

Free Flowing Support - KS1

Year 1 have been focusing on supporting children in the transition from reception to key stage 1, which has included still providing opportunities for ‘free flow’. A new SEND break out space has been set up to support the children with more complex needs, and experienced TAs have been supporting less experienced TAs in delivering daily attention autism sessions.

Literal Improvement - LKS1

In lower key stage 2 the focus has also been on making successful transitions, particularly for SEND children moving campuses to Royal Hill. In both year groups there has needed to be a focus on supporting SEND children struggling with both writing and phonics. Phonics champions have been supported to work across year groups to provide daily interventions for these children.

Little Wandle, and Interventions - UKS2

Upper Key Stage 2 teachers have worked closely with the SENCO to ensure that appropriate provision has been put in place to support children not only with academic needs, but also wider social, communication and sensory needs etc. They have put in place a robust timetable of interventions to meet these needs with a forward thinking outlook of preparing these children for secondary school. A number of upper KS2 children who are still needing phonics support have moved to the SEND pathway of Little Wandle, and are making progress with this more appropriately paced intervention. Teachers have also been focusing on adapting learning and providing opportunities to read books that are linked to year group topics but at an appropriate level.
