The Centre Team

Centre classrooms, teachers and key staff

The centre is led by our Lead Teacher of the Deaf Ms Astrid Yeranossian.

Our Lead Teacher is supported by a Teacher of the Deaf for KS2 and a HLTA.
We have three Centre classes:

  1. Centre 1 (Randall Place) Early Years and Year 1* Centre class
*We recognise that some children moving into Year 1 need more exposure to play and language development opportunities and therefore may need to access an EYFS style environment for a little longer.

  2.  Centre 2 (Randall Place) Year 1, 2 and 3 Centre Class

  3. Centre 3 (Royal Hill) Year 4, 5 and 6

Specialist learning support and communication assistants

Across our centre, we have several staff who provide classroom support, communication support both in the Centre and with deaf pupils in mainstream classrooms. They may also provide 1:1 support for children with additional needs.

Deaf instructors and specialist support staff

We have a team of deaf staff that provide specialised support, language development work and the teaching of British Sign Language across the school. This team provide positive deaf role models for every child in the school and are natural language models for the use of sign.

Speech and Language team

We have Speech and Language therapists and assistants who work in school providing 1:1 sessions, whole group sessions, advice and language assessments for each deaf child.

Deaf Instructor from Royal Greenwich Service

We have a deaf instructor from Greenwich Hearing Service who provides a rich curriculum of deaf studies looking at the successes and challenges of the deaf community, inviting visitors into the school to promote positive deaf identities. The Deaf Instructor also coordinates events within the deaf community.
