Eat Well, Live Well

The work below highlights how each key stage has been celebrating their journey to understand the role of diet in a healthy lifestyle as part of their ‘health and wellbeing’ learning.

From Farm to Fork - EYFS

Nursery have been learning about where their food comes from and the process of how different foods are made. They have been consolidating their learning through cooking and baking in class. They even made their own butter, churning milk by shaking it in a jar. They were able to understand the lengthy process and effort that goes into making what is considered a simple ingredient that many of them use every day!

Healthy Habits, Happy Kids - KS1

Year 1 have been thinking about the positive effects that healthy habits have on different aspects of their life including; mood, energy levels and concentration, as well as the effect different food groups have on the body. They have been discussing the foods that make them feel best and building an optimal lunchbox based on what they have learned.

Past Plates, Present Taste - LKS1

While learning about Ancient Greece, Year 4 have been researching traditional recipes that we still eat today. They made tzatziki and discussed the health benefits of each ingredient as well as why the recipe is still so popular today. They reflected on how diets have changed over time and weighed up the positive and negative effects that the developments in food production techniques have had and how they affect quality of life and health for different people living in different times.

Balanced Bites Daily - UKS2

Year 5 have been looking more deeply into different food groups and how each one contributes to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. They learnt the importance of each food group and how each serves a purpose for the body. They created a selection of menus that would fit into ‘the ideal day’ and highlighted the wide range of foods that could fulfil the requirements for each food group. They also discussed ‘treats’ and how they can be a welcome part of a balanced diet.
