We are PROUD of our green fingers

This half term the school has been green fingered. Pupils throughout the year groups observed, recorded and explored plants to find out all about their parts, functions and life cycles.

What do plants need to survive?

Reception learned about what plants need to grow by going outside and exploring the natural world around them. They made observations and discussed similarities and differences between plants.

Describing parts of a flower

Year 1 used their observation skills to investigate the different parts of plants. They recorded their observations by creating a model of a flower and wrote a description of the parts of the plants and their basic functions.

Plant investigation- do plants grow with the absences of light?

Year 3 investigated the function of the plants and what they need. They carried out an experiment to find out what happens to the plant in the absence of light, water, nutrients and warmth. They made observations over time and recorded their findings in a table.

Can you name the parts of a plant?

Year 5 have been studying the reproduction of plants as part of their Life Cycles topic. They have compared, observed and recorded both asexual and sexual reproduction through propagation of basil and dissection of tulips.
