Imagine; Express
Across the school, children have engaged with artists' works to build confidence in discussing and interpreting art. This practice encourages students to articulate their thoughts and feelings, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of artistic expression. By reflecting on and responding to these artworks, children develop their own creativity and artistic skills, learning to express themselves confidently and uniquely. Enhancing their artistic abilities and also contributing to their overall personal growth and self-esteem.
Bold Brush Beginnings - EYFS
In Nursery, children explored self-expression through hands-on colour mixing and shape printing activities. Through these activities, children developed confidence in using art as a form of personal expression, fostering a sense of accomplishment and contributing to their overall creative development.
Observe, Imagine, Create - KS1
In Year 2, the children explored the work of Paul Carney. They discussed their opinions on his artwork, identifying elements they liked or disliked. Building upon these insights, students applied their observations to create their own sketches of flowers, experimenting with line to express their individual interpretations. This process not only enhanced their understanding of artistic techniques but also fostered creativity and self-expression.
Forms of Fear and Fancy - LKS1
During their study of Ancient Greece, Year 4 explored the world of mythical creatures and legends. In their art lessons, they brought these to life by designing their own creatures, using collage techniques inspired by the artist Eduardo Paolozzi. The students experimented with texture, colour and pattern to create unique and imaginative designs. They also discussed how mythical creatures reflected the values and fears of Ancient Greek society.
Poetic Paint-Strokes - UKS2
Year 6 have been exploring abstract art in their lessons. They experimented with a range of media to create their own expressive pieces. Their work focused on incorporating highlights, shadows and atmosphere. The artwork was inspired by the poetry of Grace Nichols, adding depth and meaning to their creations.
