Code, Create, Communicate

This term, pupils continued to build on their computer science knowledge by developing key skills in information technology. They learned how to use digital tools to create content, such as documents, presentations, and simple programs. Through hands-on activities, they explored how technology can be used to organise, present, and communicate information effectively. Pupils demonstrated increasing independence and creativity as they used software to design, edit, and share their work, gaining confidence in using technology purposefully and safely.

Fluid Problem Solving - EYFS

In Reception, we developed problem-solving skills through 'unplugged' activities. Children navigated string webs, transported backpack bears using jugs of water, and completed obstacle courses. These hands-on challenges encouraged teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking, laying the foundation for future computing skills in a fun and engaging way.

Type, Click, Create, Share - KS1

This term, Year 2 practised typing and were introduced to word processing and presentation software. They learned to type sentences, change font styles, and add images. Pupils created a simple fact file about Brazil using slides, combining text and pictures. They developed confidence using digital tools to present information clearly and enjoyed learning new ways to share their ideas.

Lights, Code, Action - LKS1

This term, Year 3 used iMovie to create news reports on the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. They wrote scripts, recorded voice overs, and used green screen effects to place themselves at a news desk and in front of the pyramids. Year 4 explored data and sensors using BBC micro:bits. They learned to classify data, use sensors to collect information, and write simple programs using repetition and selection. Both year groups developed digital skills including video editing, programming, and problem-solving. Pupils enjoyed using technology creatively and gained a greater understanding of how it can be used to tell stories and solve problems.

Scratch’ing to Code - UKS2

This term, Year 5 enhanced their coding skills using Scratch. They created interactive programs and simple games, learning sequencing, loops, and conditional statements. Pupils practiced planning, testing, and debugging code to improve functionality and design. In addition to coding, they were introduced to Google Slides to create digital presentations. They explored structuring content, adding images, animations, and transitions to effectively present information. Through these activities, pupils developed creativity, problem-solving, and digital communication skills, gaining confidence in using technology to express ideas and present their work clearly and professionally.
