Note-Worthy Musicians

Our curriculum builds The Architecture of Sound through classroom lessons, extra-curricular activities, including orchestra and choir, and external partnerships like Rock Steady and individual tuition. We work closely with Greenwich Music and Trinity Laban College to provide borough-wide performing opportunities. This integrated approach ensures pupils develop a unique musical identity, progressing from foundational pulse to sophisticated, structured performance.

Body Beats - EYFS

In music lessons, children explored sounds with their bodies and instruments, learning how to tap, shake, and control volume. They practised keeping a steady beat and singing high/low notes through rhythm games. By creating and performing group "soundscapes" for stories, children have built significant confidence and have started to recognise how sounds convey narrative.

Funfair Frequencies - KS1

Year 1 utilised the GarageBand app to match and recreate "funfair" sounds. By exploring digital instruments like the keyboard and drums, pupils have moved from passive listening to active composition. This supported our intent by bridging the gap between real-world sounds and digital arrangement, fostering early sequencing and ICT-linked musical skills.

Tap, Clap, Learn - LKS1

Year 3 focused on "the body as an instrument," mastering complex body percussion. By progressing from basic taps to multi-part group compositions, pupils have developed a sophisticated sense of internal rhythm. This unit emphasised that music is accessible to all and has strengthened their ability to collaborate and peer-review.

Time to FACE the Music - UKS2

Year 5 transitioned into formal musical literacy, learning to transcribe and read the stave (EGBDF and FACE). By composing a bar of music for the glockenspiel and drawing it on a treble clef, pupils have professionalised their approach. They have gained the ability to record their musical ideas accurately and provide peer feedback using technical vocabulary.
