Fraction Satisfaction
Children have been able to use familiar representations to recognise, compare and write fractions to hundredths, including equivalent fractions.
Full Fun Halving Numbers - EYFS
Reception children have used their understanding of halves to explore odd and even numbers. The children investigated whether numbers can be halved, to find two equal parts. Through exploring equal parts, children have developed their number sense and fluency. An understanding of equal halves will be crucial in Year 1, when children will recognise, find and name equal halves as two parts of a whole object, shape or quantity.
A Part From the Whole - KS1
Year 2 children have recognised, found and written fractions of amounts, lengths and shapes. Children used part/whole models to pictorially represent these and support their understanding. Year 2 will build on this understanding by finding and drawing equivalent fractions, with small denominators.
Dividing and Conquering Maths - LKS1
Year 4 pupils have been recognising, comparing, and writing fractions. They have explored fractions in geographic contexts: ‘If Europe is the whole, then Sweden is a part of the whole.’ They can identify and represent fractions using visual models and number lines and are developing a solid understanding of equivalent fractions. Linking the part to the whole, they are making mathematical links eg ‘As the whole increases in size and the size of each part remains the same, the smaller it is in relation to the whole. Or, that the whole can remain the same but the size of each part can be different.’
Parts, Periods, and Percentages - UKS2
Year 6 pupils have shown strong progress in recognising, comparing, and writing fractions up to hundredths, including equivalent fractions. They can confidently represent fractions in different forms and make clear connections between fractions, decimals, and percentages. Pupils apply their understanding to more complex problems and use precise mathematical language to explain their reasoning.
