Bonjour to ¡Olé!

Across the school, students have been building their vocabulary through engaging and age-appropriate activities. From singing songs in Reception, to playing interactive games in Year 3, and sharing personal interests in Year 6, each year group has enjoyed learning in ways that suit their stage and spark enthusiasm.

High-Five Bonjour - EYFS

Reception students have continued their French journey during Carousel afternoons with a new “Remember and Revise” game. Before entering the classroom, they review four familiar words paired with actions, such as saying “Coucou!” while high-fiving the teacher. This fun routine helps reinforce vocabulary and pronunciation. Students have also enjoyed learning French songs with actions for their class assembly, especially “Petit Escargot,” and will create a small snail prop for the performance.

Singing French Families - KS1

This term in Year 1, the children have been learning how to talk about their family members in French. They enjoyed discovering the French words for different family members, such as ma mère (my mum) and mon père (my dad), and had fun practising these new words through songs and games. The children also revisited their knowledge of French numbers and greetings, which helped them feel more confident when using full sentences. It was wonderful to see how engaged and enthusiastic the children were during the lessons.

Hue knows Spanish? - LKS1

This term in Year 3, the children have been learning the names of colours in Spanish. They played fun games to help them remember the new words, which made learning exciting and enjoyable. The children also practised speaking Spanish with their partners by asking and answering simple questions. It was great to see them grow in confidence as they used new words to talk in a different language. The children were highly engaged in the lessons, as they were excited to learn something new and enjoyed exploring a different language. They also completed worksheets where they matched colours and wrote their names in Spanish, showing how much they had learned.

Hobbies en Español - UKS2

This term, Year 6 students have expanded their Spanish vocabulary related to hobbies and favourite activities. They have built on their understanding of verbs by learning to read, write, and use them in speech. Matching subjects with the correct verb forms has helped deepen their understanding of Spanish conjugation. Students have particularly enjoyed sharing their personal interests with the class, and learning vocabulary connected to these interests has boosted their enthusiasm and confidence in Spanish.
