Engineering to Excellence

The areas of curriculum shown in the photos are design and make. The photos show the students developing their own ideas and designs across different subject areas and then selecting materials they want to use to carry out their plan. This supports the intent above as it demonstrates strong cross curricular links.

Biting into Challenges - EYFS

In Nursery, children are learning to keep trying, and develop their independence and resilience. They made sandwiches with the supervision of adults, however did all the hard work themselves! They talked about what ingredients they would need and how to safely use the cooking utensils. Children chose the toppings they would like on their sandwich and carefully followed the steps they created to make them. They talked about always foods and sometimes foods, and what the difference between them is.

Super Solvers - KS1

In year two the children designed a new gadget for a Superhero linked to their English topic.  First of all they had to research their Superhero and decide what would be the most helpful gadget for them. They then explored the processes of, planning, designing and evaluating their gadget.  Children were able to use their prototype to think critically to evaluate their gadget and see if any  improvements could be made to ensure the design was suitable for the needs of the Superhero.

Engineers of Earth - LKS1

The children in Year Four practiced excellent stewardship of the Earth by recycling plastic bags into different designs. They used scissors and fine motor skills to cut the plastic bags into different shapes and lengths, and then used materials such as tape to strengthen the plastic bags and join them together. They created all sorts of different designs such as bracelets, necklaces and hair ties.

We Make Landscapes - UKS2

The Children in Year Five designed new landmarks for the London skyline. They looked at key details on famous buildings and practised joining techniques to help them create a prototype of their designs using junk modelling techniques.
