Literally Improving

The current focus within English is developing our feedback for in writing. A new feedback policy was shared with staff at the beginning of the year and these photos demonstrate it in action. The writing framework encourages the cycle of plan, draft, edit, redraft and share. We are beginning to see the positive and immediate impact of the interaction between teacher and pupil.

Super Writing Strategies - EYFS

Reception have been applying the phase 2 sounds they have been learning in Phonics to make storybooks.

They worked with their class teacher to apply our ‘Super Writing Strategy’ which is ‘Think - plan what you're going to write’ ‘Say - say your sentence out loud' ‘Write - write your sentence’ and ‘Read - read the sentence back to check it makes sense.’

Constructive Critique - KS1

Year 1 have been engaging with the new feedback policy by highlighting when their learning objective has been achieved. They have also begun to explore the editing process by having spelling corrections added to the end of their piece of writing, allowing them to search through and make corrections.

Friendly Feedback - LKS1

In Year 4, the children focused on improving their writing through the use of the new feedback policy. The children wrote short paragraphs and then edited and redrafted it to improve the quality of vocabulary, punctuation and the experience for the reader.

Highlighting Strengths & Weaknesses - UKS2

In Year 5, the children have conferred with the class teacher to acknowledge their strengths and their areas of development within a piece of writing. The teacher has acknowledge this using the new approach using highlighters.
