Lines and Colours

Starting in Reception, our pupils are immediately exposed to a wide range of artistic mediums. Coupled with the explicit teaching of foundational skills and inspiration drawn from the work of famous artists, this approach is designed to systematically build confidence in our young learners. This early, guided exposure ensures that when children are asked to independently experiment with different mediums, they feel equipped and encouraged to "have a go" and express their creativity without hesitation.

Explosive Artistry - EYFS

Children in Reception have been focusing on the themes of celebration, such as Diwali and Bonfire Night. Children confidently explored shape-making and mastered using chalk to create vibrant, dynamic firework pictures. 

Lines to Success - KS1

Year 2 students focused on accurately drawing lines and marks derived from both observation and prediction. This essential practice of classifying and reproducing lines directly feeds into our whole-school objective, equipping children across all year groups with the vocabulary and control needed to confidently experiment with a diverse and extensive range of artistic media.

Nature: Nurturer or Nemesis - LKS1

Year 4 have explored how various artists have conveyed the theme of humans vs nature. Using a range of artistic mediums, the students created their own works inspired by the styles of these artists. This included participation in a nature walk to collect material, whereby he items were arranged to represent different types of weather.

Colourful London - UKS2

Year 5 confidently experimented with diverse mediums, combining watercolours with newspaper collage to create impressive, personalised London skylines. This project allowed them to apply their knowledge of complementary and contrasting colours learned during their earlier colour wheel work. By analysing and discussing how other artists use colour, Year 5 pupils made informed decisions to enhance the visual impact of their final cityscapes.
