Mapping History

Smiles and Skies - EYFS

Reception completed their learning on ‘Land, Sea and Sky’ with a visit from a flight attendant.  She took them on a journey to different continents around the world!  Reception have also been learning about people who help us in our community and beyond. During a visit from a dentist, the children learnt how important dentists are to keep everyone healthy.

Keys to One-Piece - KS1

The Year 1 children learnt all about pirates and their routes around the world. They used simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of the grounds and create their own maps using keys. In the coming, half-term the children will be locating and researching carnivals around the world.

Maps and Windrush - LKS1

For their How Can We Experience Caribbean Culture? topic, Year 4 studied maps of the islands before distinguishing between their physical and human features. This wonderful topic links together geography, history (Windrush), DT (smoothies) and English. This learning is now represented in a brilliant display on the Royal Hill stairs.

Roots of Sacrifice - UKS2

Our Year 5 children have embarked upon learning about the world’s rainforests. After locating some of the world’s major rainforests, the children learned about the causes of tropical rainfall in these parts of the world, using keywords such as air pressure, equator and tropics. As a piece of learning marking VE day, Mr Cowley’s class studied the impact of bombing on our local area during the Second World, using special maps. This brought home to the children how real war would have felt to our neighbours at the time, and the debt we owe to their fight against fascism.
